Forgotten Island: 4 Ways the DreamWorks Film Charmed the Philippines

When the purple carpet rolled out in Manila this past August for the promotional tour of Forgotten Island, the anticipation was clear. Hosted by Ai dela Cruz on August 25–26, the event brought local fans face-to-face with the creative minds behind the movie. The DreamWorks Animation feature subsequently opened in Philippine cinemas nationwide on September 23, 2026, drawing crowds eager for its distinct art style and mysterious narrative. Many of us at OKBET observed how the protagonist's sharp survival instincts mirror the intense focus required to master a challenging round at the tables.

1. A Prominent Cast Anchors the Narrative

Strong voice performances give the island's isolation an emotional weight. Voice actors H.E.R. and Liza Soberano visited Manila alongside directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, as well as producer Mark Swift, to kick off the promotional run. The local connection deepened significantly when Lea Salonga received the inaugural MIFF Icon Award on September 6 at The Beverly Hilton. This honor directly followed a special advance screening of the film at the 3rd Annual Manila International Film Festival, which held events at both The Beverly Hilton and the TCL Chinese Theatre from September 3 to 6.

2. Unconventional Art Direction Sets the Tone

The visual presentation relies on vibrant, completely unfamiliar ecosystem designs. Bizarre yet incredibly lively creatures populate the island, creating a tense but captivating atmosphere right from the opening trailer. Rather than sticking to typical tropical backgrounds, the animators built a setting that feels like a character itself. This unique visual identity forces audiences to stay fully engaged as the protagonist navigates strange flora and unpredictable terrain.

3. Survival Mechanics Meet Classic Humor

Lighthearted pacing effectively balances the heavy survival elements. Uncovering the island's underlying logic forces the main character to look inward, confronting past memories while figuring out how to stay alive. Running at an official 1 hour and 49 minutes in SM Cinema venues and theaters nationwide, the film never drags. DreamWorks maintains its usual comedic timing here, ensuring the tension of survival never suffocates the warmth and charm of the overarching story.

4. Local Partnerships Extended the Impact

Real-world promotions kept the movie's momentum going outside the theater. A nationwide Jollibee x Forgotten Island Adventure Bundle ran through October 31, bringing the film's branding to dining tables across the country. Meanwhile, the Philippine Department of Tourism – North America partnered directly with DreamWorks Animation for an official trip-giveaway campaign. These efforts matched the scale of the Hollywood premiere held on September 23 at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, where cast members Dave Franco, Jo Koy, and Manny Jacinto joined the directors to celebrate the release.
